If you’re looking to cover even further, simply attaching the lens to a DX-format camera super-extends the focal length equivalent to that of a 270-600mm lens in 35mm format; 378-840mm when using the built-in TC. Every minute detail is yours to capture, with the highest maximum reproduction ratio of 0.25x3 at the minimum focus distance of 2m throughout the entire zoom range. Optimized perfectly for high-megapixel digital cameras, achieve high-resolution images across the entire frame regardless of focal length—even at the maximum aperture or when it is stopped down. The superior optical performance, with Nano Crystal Coat utilised to retain high transmittance, is crafted with 27 elements in 19 groups (including eight lens elements for TC) and one protective glass; which includes a fluorite lens element, and eight ED glass elements to give your images the absolute clarity they deserve.

Upgrades such as a higher-speed inversion AF drive and an enhanced drive control algorithm of the AF motor, for more accurate subject tracking based on AF detection, will help you easily follow fast-moving subjects of different speeds on the field. The AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR is the first NIKKOR lens for Nikon SLR cameras that incorporates a 1.4x teleconverter within the lens body. When the teleconverter is used, the maximum focal length of 400 mm on the telephoto side can be increased up to 560 mm. The wide focal-length coverage from 180 mm to 560 mm achieved with a single lens realizes outstanding agility.

THE BUILT-IN 1.4X TELECONVERTER CAN BE EASILY ACTIVATED WITH A SWITCH.
Because the teleconverter switch can be operated while holding the camera grip, the focal length can be smoothly expanded with a simple operation without changing the shooting posture. Movable parts and other sections are sealed to protect the inside of the lens against dust and water droplets. Fluorine coat, that effectively repels dust or dirt, is applied to the front surface of the protective glass to ensure high antifouling performance. These features enable photographers to continue shooting regardless of weather or environmental conditions.
