IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Dramatic flair or understated elegance? With impeccable levels of detail and sharpness, rely on the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S for extraordinary expression of fine lines and details. An all-new ultra-symmetrical lens structure has been made possible by adopting the Z mount system’s 55mm large diameter and 16mm short flange distance. Now, achieving superior point image reproduction is just that easy. But that’s not all, nail every scene regardless of the lighting scenario – thanks to the employment of Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat that effectively minimises ghosting and flares.

THE BEST OF BOKEH

With a wide f/1.2 aperture, achieve beautiful circular bokeh that’s easy on the eyes with minimal colour fringing around the edges. Let your primary subject stand out clearly with the lens’ shallow depth of field for stunning three-dimensional effect. When you want to change it up, enjoy the same extraordinary expression and performance in videos.

PRECISE FOCUS

Fast, accurate and smooth – enjoy all three when it comes to the AF performance of the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S. More motors, more precision focusing, and a brand new multi-focusing system that allows for fast and accurate AF, even with a shallow depth of field. This unprecedented AF system takes on a whole other level when paired with your camera’s Eye-Detection AF. You’ll be able to effortlessly ensure highly precise focusing on your subject’s eyes, meeting all your portraiture needs.

CATCH LIFE CANDIDLY

Enjoy video recording with the same superior optical performance you get in stills. Capture every candid moment unnoticed, with the lens’ quiet operation that minimises unnecessary operation sounds. The focus breathing support allows you to record videos with reduced changes in angle of view that can sometimes occur when focusing. Adapt seamlessly to changes in lighting as you move from one scene to another and enjoy smooth aperture control with a simple twist of the button-less control ring.

FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION

Anticipate your next move at every turn. All it takes is a simple click to assign a function through the lens function (L-Fn) button, and a swift glance confirms the lens information on the information panel without having to look through the camera’s viewfinder. Complete with an electro-magnetic aperture mechanism, you can now be in precise aperture control, even with continuous shooting.

No matter the weather, focus on your craft and carry on with your creative pursuits from the lens’ superior dust- and drip- resistant performance2, and rubber sealing around the lens mount. All to effectively repel dust and water droplets, so you can clean your lens with ease.

AN F/1.2 LENS THAT PROVIDES OUTSTANDING OPTICAL PERFORMANCE, ONLY POSSIBLE WITH THE Z MOUNT SYSTEM

By making the most of the advantages of the large-diameter Z mount system, the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S delivers overwhelming rendering performance among S-Line lenses with a maximum aperture of f/1.2. While achieving striking resolving power, smooth and beautiful bokeh is also created with an extremely shallow depth of field at the fast maximum aperture, realizing dramatic image expression with superb definition and natural depth. The beauty of the maximum aperture of f/1.2 can be fully enjoyed in the elaborate depiction.

An ideal lens construction is achieved by symmetrically positioning symmetrical lens groups in front of and behind the aperture. This equalizes the power balance between the front and rear groups, enabling natural light passage to an image sensor without forced refraction, which provides great potential for the lens’ optical performance. While realizing the maximum f/1.2 aperture that requires an extremely high optical technology, outstanding resolution, natural bokeh, superior point-image reproduction, minimum distortion and effective focus-breathing compensation are all accomplished, offering overwhelming rendering performance.

SUPERIOR POINT-IMAGE REPRODUCTION

Adoption of three aspherical lens elements effectively controls sagittal coma flare to minimize distorted images of point light sources, while also suppressing color fringing caused by chromatic aberration and unnatural depiction of bokeh. This enables point-light reproduction more beautiful than that perceived with the naked eye.

EXCELLENT TOLERANCE FOR BACKLIGHT

The use of Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat, Nikon’s original high-performance anti-reflection coating systems, effectively suppresses ghost and flare, regardless of the direction from which light enters the lens. Sharp and clear images can be captured even when a light source is located within the frame.

HIGHLY ACCURATE AF REALIZED EVEN WITH AN EXTREMELY SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD AT THE F/1.2 APERTURE

With an extremely shallow depth of field, the slightest motion of subjects can put them out of focus. With the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S, fast and accurate autofocusing is attained even at the f/1.2 maximum aperture by utilizing a multi-focusing system with stepping motors employed as AF actuators. Smooth focusing operation is further enhanced when used together with the camera’s eye-detection AF.

MULTI-FOCUSING SYSTEM ADOPTED

Nikon’s multi-focusing system is an advanced AF drive system that utilizes multiple AF drive units working together to control the position of multiple focusing lens groups precisely. Employing two stepping motors as AF drive units, fast and highly accurate focusing is enabled even at the maximum aperture of f/1.2. This focusing system also contributes to improving imaging performance across the entire shooting range, including short distances, by effectively compensating aberrations for sharp and clear portraits and other close-ups.

THE FIRST* F/1.2 LENS EQUIPPED WITH STEPPING MOTORS

The integration of stepping motors was realized thanks to the large diameter of the Z mount, which creates more space inside the lens barrel. This offers quiet and smooth AF with a constant focusing speed, also serving as a great advantage for video recording.

GENUINE IMAGE EXPRESSION WITH VIDEO RECORDING

The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S is designed with consideration given to video recording as well, achieving dramatic image expression utilizing an extremely shallow depth of field at the f/1.2 aperture in video. While demonstrating the same optical performance as with stills, a variety of features that enables smooth video expression is also employed. Focus-breathing reduction function effectively reduces shifting of the angle of view when adjusting focus, allowing users to freely change focus position after setting a composition. Lens drive and other operational sounds are minimized to prevent them from being recorded with video, even when recording in quiet surroundings or situations. Also, the control ring, to which functions such as ISO sensitivity, aperture and exposure compensation can be assigned, provides comfortable recording with its superior operational feel.

OTHER FEATURES

OUTSTANDING RELIABILITY EVEN IN HARSH CONDITIONS

Superior dust- and drip-resistant performance* is achieved with a sealing for various sections including movable parts of the lens barrel to prevent dust and water droplets from entering the lens, as well as the adoption of a rubber seal around the lens mount.

*Perfect dustproof and waterproof performance is not guaranteed under all conditions.

LENS INFO PANEL AND L-FN BUTTON FOR ENHANCED OPERABILITY

The lens information panel enables quick confirmation of aperture, focus distance, depth of field, etc. without looking into the viewfinder even in dark situations. While an L-Fn button, to which a function can be assigned just as with camera Fn1 and Fn2 buttons, allows users to customize operation to suit their own preferences.

ADOPTION OF AN ELECTROMAGNETIC DIAPHRAGM MECHANISM

The lens itself is equipped with a diaphragm blade unit that employs its own drive mechanism, and uses electronic signals from the camera for even more precise aperture control, delivering consistently stable exposure control (AE), even during continuous shooting.
